PIG Oil Absorbent Socks & Booms

Absorbent socks and booms are prefect to stop liquids spreading by surrounding and “capturing” leaks and spills before they can run away all over your factory floor. Booms (but not socks) can also stop spills spreading on water.

On land or water, oil and fuel spills can be a big problem, attracting hefty fines if not cleaned-up or contained properly. Our PIG Oil Absorbent Socks and Booms are designed and made to stop, absorb and contain the spill — preventing damage to the environment and your bottom line.

They are also ideally used in general maintenance, giving you peace of mind that spills or leaks are prevented from escaping while you’re servicing your machinery.

a) What are oil absorbent socks & booms?

Absorbent socks and booms form a barrier that stops spills spreading, for example from around a drum. They keep the spill contained where it happened — even if that’s the middle of the floor (socks) or a dam (socks or booms).

Some socks are designed for outside use, so are UV protected, and then there’s a skimming sock which you can use to see if your monitoring well has oil in it. Use the PIG Sump Skimmer to soak up unwanted oil-based fluids that collect in sumps, tanks and bilges. Simply lower this floating skimmer into any water-based liquid and it will absorb oils, but without taking in water.

b)  Oil absorbent socks & booms FAQs

Q. Can I use PIG Oil Absorbent Socks and Booms on fuel, oils and water?

A. These white socks and booms are designed to soak up oil and fuel. They are not designed to soak up water. (To soak up water, please use Pig Universal Absorbent Socks.)

Q. What if I use the oil absorbent socks and booms on water to soak up fuel?

A. You can do this with the full confidence that this boom will only absorb and retain oils and oil-based liquids (including lubricants and fuels). It won’t take in a drop of water.

Q. Are they strong?

A. Yes! The tough outer mesh is UV resistant for long-term outdoor use without degrading and lets fluids easily pass through to polypropylene filler material.

Q. Which ones can I use on land or water?

A. Your can use the 13cm diameter PIG Oil-Only Absorbent Boom, or slightly thicker 20cm diameter boom or PIG Oil-Only Spaghetti Boom on land or water. The spaghetti boom is ideal for pulling in thick oil or for using in fast-moving waters.

Q. We have a “green product” policy; do any of your oil only absorbent socks have recycled material?

A. Yes, the SKM210 oil only absorbent sock has a 95% mixture of pre and post-consumer recycled cellulose, so is perfect to use in situations where green products are desired or required.
