Safety Cabinets: Storage for hazardous chemicals
Storing hazardous chemicals in a safety cabinet keeps your workers safe and your plant neat.
According to WorkSafe Australia, “hazardous chemicals are substances, mixtures and articles that can pose a significant risk to health and safety if not managed correctly”. They may have health hazards, physical hazards — or both.
Obvious chemicals that can immediately injure people or damage property include flammable liquids, compressed gasses and explosives; while chemicals that can cause adverse health effects include toxic chemicals, those that cause skin damage and carcinogens.
By law, businesses must manage the risks associated with hazardous chemicals — when using, handling, generating and storing them. The best way to do that is with a safety cabinet.
What is a safety cabinet?
Safety cabinets are specially designed “cupboards” to store hazardous chemicals and keep them safely isolated. And, people safely isolated from the dangers those chemicals can pose.

b) Safety cabinet FAQs
Q. Why do I need a safety cabinet to store hazardous chemicals? Can’t I just put them up on a high shelf where people can’t easily reach or a cupboard no one goes to much?
A. Firstly, storing haz chems on a high shelf is fraught with danger for accessing them. The cupboard out the back is hardly safe either. Fires from haz chems can grow very, very fast, and quickly overcome less-than-excellent fire-protection systems. Even with an adequate fire-protection system, haz chems pose other dangers from small leaks or explosions. Storing them safely — in a properly designed and built, lockable enclosure — is by far the safest way to store haz chems. This protects your staff, your business, your business’s reputation and your bottom line.
It’s also the law to store them safely.
Q. Your safety cabinets are “FM Approved”. What does this mean?
A. FM Approvals is an international leader in third-party testing and certification services. Manufacturers all around the world use them. FM Approvals uses scientific research and testing to test property-loss-prevention products (such as safety cabinets) that are used in commercial and industrial facilities. For you, it means peace of mind that our safety cabinets will store your hazardous chemicals safely.
